• UNDERSTAND THE WEBSITE OBJECTIVES: This is a key function for building successful websites. Web sites need to be specifically designed for clearly spelt out purposes to make them achieve the results you want.
• DESIGN OF WEBSITE: The design of the site should help achieve its intended purpose. Design includes not only the layout of the site's content, graphics and navigation but also deciding on the different facilities to be included, such as order and payment pages, contact facilities, reader comment forms and anything else needed for effectively achieving the site's purpose.
• ORGANIZING THE SITE CONTENT: The website has to be filled with working content called for by its design. These will include static and dynamic text content, graphics, forms along with their processing programs and shopping carts.
• UPLOADING THE SITE: This function involves such things as domain registration, finding Web server space to put up the site, installing programs, setting up databases and uploading content
• ADMINISTERING THE SITE: Troubleshooting the website functionality, forwarding site reader feedback and comments to appropriate persons, attending to domain renewals and server space hiring to keep the site going and such incidental matters constitute the administrative function. Arrangements also need to be made to process credit card and other types of payments through merchant accounts and payment gateways.

The Webmaster is thus more of an administrator who coordinates the work of web designers and content developers, and also administers the site by setting up the site, uploading the content and attending to maintenance and other incidental issues.

JOB SKILLS:

The primary skill set needed for webmasters include the ability to create websites that are effective in meeting business needs, good design sense to lay out the site in a professional manner and constantly updated awareness of trends in website design, standards and promotion. The person also needs to be a good administrator able to organize things.

• WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT: Essential skills include HTML/XHTML, XML, graphics programs such as Photoshop, scripting languages such as Javascript and PHP, databases such as MySQL, awareness of server and client side programming issues, familiarity with packages like DreamWeaver, Flash and Web content management systems
• DESIGN SENSE: Training in principles of good website design, skill in presenting the design in the form of storyboards and design sense to appreciate good design
• WEB FAMILIARITY: Familiarity with Internet, Intranet, Extranet, domain registration issues, Web hosting (Web server space hiring) offers and practices, FTP, setting up the site with databases and server side scripts, and practices relating to developments like webinars and Web based applications
• ECOMMERCE EXPOSURE: Familiarity with shopping cart software, essentials of sales pages and payment processing issues such as merchant accounts, payment gateways
• FAMILIARITY WITH SITE PROMOTION: Familiarity with customer (keyword) research, competitor research, search engine optimization, pay-per-click campaigns, link building practices including article marketing, RSS and social marketing and other ways of getting websites before interested prospects, and understanding visitor behavior by using Web analytics tools

Duty Hours

A full time webmaster you will work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and a part time webmaster will work 4 hours a day , 5 days a week.

Rate

Full time webmaster @ $600 per month
part time webmaster @ $325 per month.
